Central Public School District is committed to meeting the educational needs of all students. The Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) program provides specialized services for children age birth to seven, who have been found eligible and are in need of specially designed instruction. Services available through the ECSE program include comprehensive assessment, consultation to families and childcare providers, direct services in the area(s) of need and/or resource provision. ECSE services are divided into two main categories, birth to age three services and three to kindergarten entrance services.

Children age birth to 2 years: 11 months are eligible for early intervention services, if they meet the criteria established by the Minnesota Department of Education. The early intervention team works with the family to develop an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). Early intervention services are then implemented to address the family goals outlined in the IFSP.

Services are typically provided in the child's home. They can also be provided in other natural settings such as the child's daycare, or an Early Childhood Family Education classroom. The service provider works with the the child's caregiver to educate them in strategies and interventions which can be used throughout the child's daily routines to aid in accomplishing the goals laid out in the IFSP.

Children age three to kindergarten entrance are eligible for Early Childhood Special Education services if they meet the criteria established by the Minnesota Department of Education. The services provided are laid out in an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) developed by the service providers and the child's parents. The services provided in the IEP are based on the child's unique needs, and are generally determined thorough evaluation and assessment. Early Childhood Special Education services are most frequently provided within the child's preschool classroom.
