back to school

Dear Central Public Schools Parent Community,

I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying the remaining days of summer with your families. As we approach the new academic year, I would like to take a moment to update you on some developments regarding our ambitious construction project that took place over the summer months.

First and foremost, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support, understanding, and flexibility as we navigate through this significant undertaking. Our once-in-a-generation construction project holds the promise of enhancing the learning environment for our students for years to come, and your partnership in this endeavor is truly invaluable.

While a majority of the construction work has been progressing according to plan, I must inform you that some areas of the project have experienced unforeseen delays. As a result, we find ourselves in the position of needing to adjust the start date for our secondary school students (6-12).

The elementary school will commence classes as scheduled, ensuring a seamless beginning to the academic year for our younger learners. However, due to the necessary work at the secondary school, the start date for our secondary school students is on-track for a September 11 start date. The four days will be made up at the end of the year. I will send additional updates to the 6-12 families after the construction meeting on Aug. 23.

I understand that this adjustment may cause some inconvenience, and I assure you that we are making every effort to minimize any disruptions to your family's routine. We are committed to providing a safe and conducive learning environment for all our students, and we believe that these changes will ultimately contribute to achieving that goal.

Additionally, I would like to inform you that, despite these delays, there will still be ongoing construction activities within certain areas of the secondary school campuses even after the school year begins. Specifically, the media center, one special education room, the STEAM Lab, and an open study area in the basement of the high school will continue to undergo construction until October 8, 2023. These areas will be secured during the school day to ensure student and staff safety during construction and the work that needs to be completed will not have an impact on the learning environment for the students.

Our dedicated team is working tirelessly to ensure that these areas are completed with the utmost care and attention to detail. We understand the importance of providing our students with the best possible facilities and resources, and we are committed to delivering on this promise.

As we embark on this new academic year, I encourage you to actively engage with your child's education. Attend parent-teacher conferences, participate in school events, and join our vibrant PTA community. Together, we can create an environment where every student thrives, and their potential is nurtured to its fullest extent. I invite you to take advantage of the open-door policy we have in place, as your valuable feedback and input are essential in shaping the future of our schools.

In closing, I would like to extend my warmest welcome to both new and returning families. The opening of our remodeled elementary and high school buildings represents an exciting new chapter in the Central Public Schools' journey. I have every confidence that this year will be filled with academic excellence, personal growth, and countless achievements for our students.

Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. Together, let us continue to build a strong, supportive, and thriving community that nurtures the dreams of our future leaders.

Wishing you all a successful and memorable school year ahead!

Warm regards,

Tim Schochenmaier
