Students with books

Students at Central Elementary School recently wrapped up their Read-a-Thon and it was a huge success! Our Raiders read for 132,006 combined minutes at home during the four weeks of the Read-a-Thon and collected $13,675 in pledges!

Students earned Raider-themed prizes (color-changing stadium cup, Central Raider pennant, tote bag, and Raiders long-sleeve t-shirt) for donations and celebrated at an Olympic Themed Literacy Night. A raffle drawing was done at the "closing ceremony" to give away books and a kindle was given to a K-2 winner and a 3-5 winner.

The money for the kindles was donated from the NYA Lions Club and the amazing book sets were paid for with donations from the Cologne Fire Department.

We are so thankful for everyone's effort to make this a success and for the generosity of our community!

GO for gold Olympic Collage

With the theme of Winter Olympics, students were able to partner with classroom from other grades for activities. Kindergarten classes met with third grade classes, first grade met with fourth grade classes, and second grade met with fifth grade classes. Each class pair chose a country that is participating in the Olympics and did some activities, such as learning about their country, making flags, and other olympic-themed fun.

Literacy Night had amazing attendance despite the cold weather with five stations of fun including Olympic BINGO, bookmark craft, mixed-up sentences, snack with Olympic mad libs, and an Olympic obstacle course leading to free books.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a huge success and to all who attended!
