Don’t forget that the Central Public Schools Preschool Open House is on February 12 and new family registration begins February 13. Let’s meet another preschool teacher! Mrs. Pysick has been a teacher for 16 years and loves being able to connect with students and their families. She loves seeing young learners have growth in self confidence with social and academic skills while of course having a bunch of fun. This year, she came up with a great way to keep kids connected to their parents while also helping with learning! “We have had a year of missing our moms and dads! We came up with a plan to see what our parents were doing while students were at school called Parents Be Real at Work. Parents took snap shots of themselves at work and sent it to us,” said Mrs. Pysick. “The children also participated by having the teachers take snapshots of them working at school to send back. It was a great bridge between home and school!”

If you might already know our next preschool teacher. Terry Johnson has been teaching here for 21 years and loves seeing the excitement and joy in the eyes of her students as they learn and make new friends. A typical day in her classroom is full of laughter and includes students having breakfast, doing calendar time, having a story, doing centers (small group activities), dancing to music, and play time to work on social skills. She has lots of great stories from her time in the district, but this one stands out: “I had a student that was very quiet and shy that I worked with for two years. During class we would work on all of our skills in talking and interacting with others. He was a wonderful student. As he grew up and continued on with his academic success, he became a leader and a great friend to many. He has always stayed in contact with me all the way until he graduated from High School. As he was getting ready for graduation, he and I had a talk about all of his accomplishments. As he was talking with me about them, he always said that it all started when he was in preschool and had teachers who were always there to help him. Not just when he was small but also as he was growing up. Every time that we see each other now, we hug and talk about what he is doing. I will always remember all of the special times with students and love having all of these wonderful memories!”

Are you excited to register for preschool yet? Let’s meet another one of our amazing preschool teachers! Ms. Schaaf has been teaching for 12 years and says she loves teaching because she loves the kids and that every single day is an adventure! She says her classroom is full of fun and engaging learning opportunities built in through play and exploration. “I just love seeing how proud a child feels when they accomplish a task or skill that they have been working hard to master such as the first time they write their name by themselves or zip up their own coat without help for the first time,” said Ms Shaaf. “It just brings me so much joy!”

It’s time to meet another Preschool Teacher! Mrs. Pugh has been working with early childhood children for more than 20 years. Children in her classroom can expect to have a hands-on, messy, playful, and creative learning experience with a variety of activities to engage students and spark their love for learning. She says she enjoys teaching because: “I love teaching preschool because you are building their foundation! Watching those light bulb moments as they make a discovery for the first time is the absolute best. Also, they are hilarious and will most definitely let me know if I ever have something in my teeth!”

The Central Public Schools Preschool Open House is on Feb. 12 and new family registration begins Feb. 13. We will be highlighting our amazing preschool teachers so you can get to know them! First up is Ms. Poppler who teaches at our NYA site and has 13 years of teaching experience. She says she enjoys teaching because she loves watching kids grow and learn. Her classroom provides young learners with fun, caring, kindness, compassion, routine, and learning. When asked about a story that stands out she said: “Nine years ago, I was at wrestling practice with my boys. I had a little girl say to me, ‘Ms. Poppler you have a lot of kids that love you.’ It’s heartwarming knowing that you make a difference in these kids' lives and that the short time you have with them can have an impact that lasts for years.”
